Ten years ago we purchased a Privilege Catamaran in the Caribbean and liked the comfort, but were disappointed in the performance. We thought if we were to get another catamaran we would like both performance and comfort. I have been a multihull fanatic for about 14 years. It has always made more sense to me not to have a lead keel to take the boat to the bottom should some accident occur. Add to this comfort and speed and to me there is no other option. Catamarans have more appeal for me because of the available space. My search continued for 9 years while we raised our family and thought about another catamaran. I knew what I wanted. I also knew I didn’t have $800,000.00 to spend on the boat of my dreams.

I started thinking about building our own and talked to several designers. When I discovered Schionning Designs I started communicating with them. I made reservations to visit them in Australia and also meet some of the builders. During the month I spent in Australia I met 16 different builders and placed my order for the materials for a 48 ft. Catamaran.

I became an agent for the Schionnings in the U.S and Canada and started building. What you see in the photo gallery is the work in progress. I will update it regularly with the ups, downs, in’s and outs of what it’s like to build a modern high performance catamaran. We are building in the San Francisco Bay area and welcome visitors.
